Forecasting Variations in Profitability and Silviculture under Climate Change of Radiata Pine Plantations through Differentiable Optimization

چکیده

Climate change might entail significant alterations in future forest productivity, profitability and management. In this work, we estimated the financial (Soil Expectation Value, SEV) of a set radiata pine plantations northwest Spain under climate change. We optimized silvicultural interventions using differentiable approach projected productivity machine learning model basing on climatic predictions 11 Global Models (GCMs) two Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs). The forecasted mean SEV for was lower than current (∼22% RCP 4.5 ∼29% 6.0, with interest rate = 3%). dispersion distribution very high, alternatively forecasting increases decreases depending chosen GCM. Silvicultural optimization considering projections effectively mitigated potential economic losses due to change; however, its ability perform mitigation strongly dependent rates. conclude that region be significantly reduced change, though further research is necessary clearing uncertainties regarding high projections.

Mid-Rotation Silviculture Timing Influences Nitrogen Mineralization of Loblolly Pine Plantations in the Mid-South USA

Intensively managed loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantations often develop nutrient deficiencies near mid-rotation. Common silvicultural treatments for improving stand nutrition at this stage include thinning, fertilization, and vegetation control. It is important to better understand the influence of timing fertilization and vegetation control in relation to thinning as part of improving the...

Ecological forecasting under climate change: the case of Baltic cod.

Good decision making for fisheries and marine ecosystems requires a capacity to anticipate the consequences of management under different scenarios of climate change. The necessary ecological forecasting calls for ecosystem-based models capable of integrating multiple drivers across trophic levels and properly including uncertainty. The methodology presented here assesses the combined impacts o...

Multiaged Silviculture of Ponderosa Pine

Ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa P. & C. Lawson) is highly suitable for management using multiaged systems. This suitability is primarily the result of a frequent, low severity disturbance regime, but also because it naturally occurs at low densities and has a long history of management to promote multiple age classes. Several different stocking control tools are available for ponderosa pine inc...
